Academy of Finance I - Full Year 1 credit

Prerequisite: Grades 10-12
Economics and the world of finance are combined with a study of securities for students interested in a career in finance or insurance. Students will learn basic economic principles, business organization, government economic systems, insurance products and coverages, etc. The AOF provides students exposure to career opportunities in the financial services industry. Opportunities for paid internship offers students hands-on experiences in the financial services of insurance industries.
Academy of Finance II Honors - Full Year 1 credit
Code: BUS 257
Prerequisite: Successful completion of AOF I
Upon completing AOF I and a paid internship, students will continue their studies in the financial services and insurance fields. Students will study the concepts of banking and credit, international finance and financial planning/operations.
Accounting I (CCP) - Full Year 1 credit
Code: BUS 221
Prerequisite: Grades 10-12
This introductory course emphasizes the principals, concepts and procedures in keeping financial records for business and personal uses. The purpose and use of journals, ledgers and accounting forms are emphasized. The student will interpret records and use the computer for selected applications. The course is particularly recommended for students interested in a career in accounting, computers and also for those planning to continue their education in business administration, marketing and management. Students completing Accounting I and II can earn college credits. It may also count as a third mathematics credit for those students who have earned ten.
Accounting II (CCP) Honors - Full Year 1 credit
Code: BUS 223 (4 College Credits)
Prerequisite: Accounting 1, C- or better and Excel.
This advanced course will provide and develop further understanding and skills in accounting practices and procedures. Course coverage includes cash basis accounting, departmental and payroll accounting, accounting for adjustments, partnership accounting and corporate accounting. Selected applications are made with the computer. This course is recommended for those wishing to gain an entry-level position in the accounting areas and for those planning to continue their education in business administration, marketing and related fields. Students completing Accounting I and II can earn college credits. It may also count as a third mathematics credit for those who have earned ten (10) or more credits. Students enrolled in this course are dual enrolled at Manchester Community College. Successful completion of this Course will grant MCC credit for Principles of Accounting (ACC 115).
Excel I - Semester ½ credit

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Computer Applications 1, Enrollment in AOF or Accounting.
This course gives the student an introduction to the uses in capability of spreadsheet software necessary in the business world today. Hands-on computer experiences are provided in creating, maintaining, expanding and manipulating spreadsheets.
Computer Applications I - Semester ½ credit

Computer Applications is a half-year course designed to familiarize students with the use of computers in today’s academic and business environments. Coursework will begin with the development and review of the “touch” method of Keyboarding. Students will learn to format academic and business documents using Microsoft Word. Students have the opportunity to continue the study of Microsoft Word and other desktop applications in the advanced courses, as Computer Applications1 is a prerequisite for these courses.
Computer Applications II (CCP) Honors - Semester ½ credit
Code: BUS 215, BUS 216Prerequisite grade of C or better in Computer Applications 1.
Using Microsoft Word software, students will learn more complex computer techniques which involve topics such as formatting documents with themes and styles, to creating and merging mailing labels. Students will continue to develop proficiency in speed, accuracy and proofreading skills through the completion of the class projects. Note: Students enrolled in this course are dual enrolled at Manchester Community College. Successful completion of this course will grant MCC credit for Keyboarding for Information Professionals (BOT 111).
Personal Finance I
Code: BUS 219
This course covers personal financial issues that individuals face in today’s society. Students will learn how to save for the future and the importance of creating a budget. Course topics will include managing savings and checking accounts, debit cards, bank reconciliations, budgeting, payroll checks, introduction to taxes, credit management, the importance of insurance and the risks of identity theft. This class will involve the processing of daily math necessary to succeed on a day to day basis. Various class projects using technology will support curriculum objectives in each area studied. Students must be equipped with a calculator. Students enrolled in this course and then enrolled in Personal Finance 2 are dual enrolled at Manchester Community College. Successful completion of this course as well as Advanced Finance (BUS 217 or BUS 218) will be granted MCC credit for Financial Literacy (BFN 111).
Personal Finance II - Semester ½ credit

Prerequisite: Personal Finance 1
This advanced course provides an understanding of complex skills needed to succeed financially in today’s world. Students will learn how to calculate car loans, mortgages and student loans. Students will be introduced to the college process, purchasing a home, creating a budget for a young family applying for FAFSA, completing tax forms and maintaining and reconciling a checking account using electronic funds transfers and debit card purchases. Students will also learn how to access their credit scores, the importance of maintaining good credit and who may view their history. Field Trips and guest speakers support the curriculum objectives, along with the use of the latest technology. Students must be equipped with a calculator.
